France crashed out of a home Rugby World Cup in heartbreaking fashion as they went down to South Africa in one of the greatest matches of all time and Antoine Dupont slammed the refereeing in the aftermath of the loss keno
A thrilling quarter-final at the Stade de France ended with the Springboks triumphing 29-28 as France’s last-gasp stand to try and find the single score that would have led them to victory came up agonisingly short, in an excruciatingly similar manner to Ireland 24 hours earlier at the same stadium keno
In a match decided by the finest of margins, Les Bleus captain Dupont – whose recovery from a fractured cheekbone suffered just 24 hours prior had dominated the build-up to the game –was unhappy with referee Ben O’Keeffe and let rip in his post-match press conference keno
“It’s hard to talk about these things because there’s lots of disappointment and frustration,” said Dupont keno
“We could have had some penalties at crucial moments keno
“I don’t want to be a bad loser and moan about the refereeing but I don’t think the refereeing was up to the level of what was at stake keno
It’s not just one person, there are TMOs, assistant referees and they have time to review images as the game is going on keno
“This doesn’t take anything away from South Africa’s performance, they played a great game keno

It was a tight call and would have been a penalty, sin-binning and possibly even a penalty try had the ball been deemed to have gone forward off the Springbok lock’s hand keno
Etzekeno beth was later sin-binned for making contact with Uini Atonio’s head in a tackle but after bunker review, it was decided that a yellow card was sufficient and it wasn’t upgraded to red keno

After such an incredible quarter-final, it was a shame to be talking about the referee and while head coach Fabien Galthie also hinted at his dissatisfaction at O’Keeffe’s performance, he was keen to give South Africa their due for a scintillating performance keno
“I understand the players’ frustration,” said Galthie keno
“I ask them to be brave but at such times keno

keno
I will accept it [the refereeing] keno
This doesn’t take anything away from South Africa’s performance keno
“They showed their experience and they dominated us in the fight keno
I don’t want to take that away from them keno
There’s just frustration, a lot of emotions and it’s hard to take keno
“We’ve worked with the referees ahead of this tournament and during the World Cup and we will continue to do so keno
”South Africa captain Siya Kolisi also brushed off any potential controversy and instead focused on a remarkable game of rugby keno
“All we can do is play rugby, we can’t control the decisions the referee makes,” said Kolisi keno
“We will have to look again but I felt he let the game flow well and his decisions were ok keno
I’ve never discredited a referee and I never will keno
“Antoine got his own opinion but the game was an amazing game keno
It flowed, it was physical and there were lots of contests keno
The atmosphere was amazing and it was a perfect stage for everything keno

Jakob Ingebrigtsen has accused his father and former coach of physical violence and abusive behaviour in a statement alongside his two brothers, Filip and Henrik – an accusation that their father strenuously denies keno
Olympic 1,500m champion Jakob, the youngest of the three siblings, shot to fame when he stormed to gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 aged just 20 keno
The Norwegian middle-distance runner has since gone on to win two World Championship silvers and two golds in 2022 and 2023 keno
In 2022, Gjert Ingebrigtsen stepped down as coach of the three brothers for medical reasons keno
However, the rift became increasingly public when Gjert began coaching fellow Norwegian Narve Gilje Nordas, who is a main rival of Jakob heading into next year’s Olympics having won bronze at the World Championships in August keno
Now, in an article for the publication VG, the brothers have gone public with historical claims of physical abuse about their father, suggesting “now the situation is unbearable keno
”RecommendedGreat Britain’s Josh Kerr wins stunning 1500m gold at World ChampionshipsI knew it was my turn – Josh Kerr was confident he would beat Jakob Ingebrigtsen“When we broke up with Gjert, we thought we would be able to handle the situation in an orderly manner, without mentioning the underlying circumstances keno
We now realise that is not possible,” the statement said keno
“This matter has become so inflamed and has had such a great consequence that we feel a responsibility to clean it up keno
“We have grown up with a father who has been very aggressive and controlling and who has used physical violence and threats as part of his upbringing keno
We still feel discomfort and fear which has been in us since childhood keno
“Somehow we have accepted this keno
We have lived with it, and in adulthood we have moved on keno
At least we thought so keno
In retrospect, we realise that it was naive keno
But two years ago, the same aggression and physical punishment struck again keno
It was the drop that made the cup run over keno
”As well as guiding Jakob to Olympic gold, Gjert also coached both older brothers to the European 1,500m title keno
The three brothers and their father had a very public relationship as the stars of a Norwegian reality TV show, Team Ingebrigtsen, but the trio now say they don’t have the “capacity or desire” to interact with him keno

(Getty)Gjert has already been denied accreditation for the upcoming World Indoor Championships and European Championships next year, with the Norwegian Athletics Federation set to recommend the same fate for the Olympic Games in Paris keno
In a statement released by his lawyers, Gjert has strenuously denied the claims, saying: “The statements they make are baseless keno
I have never used violence against my children keno
That I have had weaknesses as a father, and to a great extent been a coach, is a realization I have also come to – albeit far too late keno
“I’m far from perfect as a father and husband, but I’m not violent keno
First and foremost, this is a tragic situation for my family – we have reached the point where we are spreading false accusations against each other in the media keno
It makes me deeply unhappy keno
How we’re going to get past this, I don’t know, but we’ve got to try keno
